Papua New Guinea covers 462,840 km² on the new Equal Earth world map, 0.3% of all land on Earth. It ranks 54th of 237 countries worldwide and 2nd in Oceania. At 6° latitude Mercator only inflates Papua New Guinea by about 1%, so the old and new maps largely agree on it, unlike the far north where Mercator's stretch is dramatic.
